When can I retire?
From 1 April 2014, the Normal Pension Age (NPA) for each member of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) will be equal to their State Pension Age) subject to a minimum of age 65.
If you have at least two years membership or have transferred pension rights into the LGPS, you can take early retirement from age 55, but your benefits may be reduced.
If you are made redundant and are over the age of 55, you will be entitled to immediate payment of benefits
If you have at least two years' membership and are retired on the grounds of Ill-health you could receive immediate ill-health pension benefits at any age.
You could choose to work beyond NPA - your pension beyond this date would be enhanced in accordance with GAD guidance.
