Portable Traffic Signals

1. Introduction

1.1 This policy deals with the approval procedure for temporary portable traffic signals placed for two way and multi way working.

2. Relevant legislation

2.1 The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 No 3113 direction 35 and 53 relate to the approval of portable traffic signals.

3. Policy

3.1 The County Council shall give permission for portable traffic signals in accordance with the relevant legislation and the procedure outlined in the HMMP.

3.2 A minimum advance notice of seven working days is required for two-way lights and a minimum of 21 working days for three-way or multi-phase temporary signalisation from organisations requesting permission to erect and use portable traffic signals.
