Rockbourne is near Fordingbridge in a picturesque and peaceful part of Hampshire close to the New Forest. The Roman villa once stood in the centre of a large farming estate, and is the largest known villa in the area. Its history spans the period from the Iron Age to the 5th century AD.
The villa includes bath houses, living quarters, farm buildings and workshops. You can see the best mosaics, part of the underfloor heating system and the outline of the villa's forty rooms.
There’s room outside for children to run around and inside they can enjoy dressing up as Romans and enjoy Roman themed games and quizzes. The very young can build their own villa from Lego. We have baby changing facilities.
Visit the site museum which displays many of the fascinating objects found during excavations, showing what life was like for the Roman Britons who lived here over 1,600 years ago.
We sell tea, coffee and ice creams and there are picnic tables outside if you want to bring your own picnic to enjoy. There are pubs and a shop in the nearby village if you require more.
