Museums Service

Museums across Hampshire offer opportunities for learning linked to history, art, local studies, and natural sciences using our unique collections and sites.

  • Museum education officer-led sessions at our sites or in school.

  • Support for self-led visits to our sites.

  • Projects using new media and new technologies.

  • All the above can be linked to our mini museum projects, which include loan of display materials and contact with collection officers (keepers and specialist conservation staff).

  • Opportunity to link projects with community groups and

 
  • Team of expert staff available, including qualified museum education officers.

  • All sessions developed through consultation with schools.

  • We promote active learning, creativity and thinking skills in all our sessions.

  • Access to historic collections and sites, including Milestones in Basingstoke and SEARCH in Gosport.

 

Charges made to cover cost of session negotiated by hour, e.g. for a two hour led session or by halfday for specific programmes of activity.

 

Sessions are evaluated and feedback acted on to modify sessions.

Staff monitoring and training is regularly used as part of our continuing professional development process.

All sessions are developed against Government Generic Learning Outcomes, as well as with teachers to link with school curricula needs.
