The event was presented by Kris Temple from BBC South Today, and the evening began by sharing memories of 2012 from Anne Fletcher, London 2012 Athletics Official, Margaret Hyde, London 2012 Torch Bearer, Olivia Breen, London 2012 Athlete and Lucy Davis and Charlotte Joseph, London 2012 Games Makers. Speaking at the event, Councillor Keith Chapman, Executive Member for Culture and Recreation of Hampshire County Council commented: "Tonight has been a fantastic opportunity to recognise and reward local people’s dedication to sport and celebrate their achievements. Following on from such an amazing year for sport in 2012 it is inspiring to see so much commitment, inspiration and excellence within the sporting community in our county. I hope that this will continue for many years to come."

Judged by an independent panel, the standard of entries for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Sports Awards 2010 was exceptional, with many current and aspiring international athletes featuring in the shortlist. In addition, an Outstanding Achievement Award was presented to Geoff Holt, the first transatlantic quadriplegic sailor, in recognition of his significant sailing accomplishments.
Councillor Margaret Snaith-Tempia, Executive Member for Culture and Recreation commented: “The quality of this year’s shortlist is a demonstration of the immense sporting talent and commitment to sport in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. It all bodes very well for the future of sport in the county.”
“I expect to see many of our winners and shortlisted nominees participating at the London Olympics in 2012 and hope that the recognition they have received tonight spurs them on to continued success.”
