Since 1995, Off-air recordings of local television news programmes Meridian Tonight and BBC South Today have been made once a month on different days, to provide a representative sample of their live output for comparative research purposes. Recordings of other local and national television and radio programmes of local interest have also been made. Naturally, copies of items about WFSA and Hampshire Record Office have also been kept.
It is important not to miss contemporary life in the region, so video camcorder films have been made of live events, such as the 50th anniversary of D-Day ('Operation Overlord') at Portsmouth, Le Tour de France cycle race in Winchester, and 'Seawings 2000' aviation show. Southampton shipping activity has also been captured for posterity. Workplaces have also been recorded, with extensive coverage of activities at Michelmersh Brickworks and Petersfield & Reliance Laundry. Knowle Mental Hospital was also filmed before it closed.
