UK law requires the details of all births, stillbirths, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships to be recorded officially. The role of a Registration Officer (Registrar) is to collect this information by conducting face to face interviews with the public. Registration Officers also perform civil marriage and partnership ceremonies as well as a broad range of other ceremonies including Citizenship, Civil Funerals, Renewal of Vows and Naming.
Social workers form partnerships with people: helping them to assess and interpret the problems they face, and supporting them in finding solutions. They have to know how the law works and be fully up to speed with the social welfare system. They will liaise regularly with other professionals - teachers, doctors, nurses, police, lawyers - acting on behalf of the people they are working with.
