Become a volunteer
Do you want to help your local community museum and meet new people? Or enhance your CV and receive free training?
Community Museums in Andover, Basingstoke, Fareham, Christchurch and Aldershot are now recruiting volunteers. We are also seeking volunteers for Bursledon Windmill and Rockbourne Roman Villa.
Benefits of volunteering
By volunteering with us you will be helping your local community museum and meeting new people.
Working with us can also provide significant experience on your CV, particularly as volunteers are encouraged to commit for at least three months. It may also enable you to collect UCAS points.
Volunteering can improve your physical, emotional and mental well-being, provide an opportunity to meet people and perhaps provide a stepping stone to higher education or employment.
Volunteers will receive an induction and thorough training programme covering a number of areas such as visitor services, enquiries, booking procedures and security and warding.
We need Welcome Museum volunteers at all the community museums listed below and sites, and garden volunteers of our sites. Shifts tend to be 9am to 1.15pm and 1pm to 5.15pm on weekdays (slightly shorter at the weekends). Potential volunteers need to consider which shifts they would prefer and how often they could attend.
As a volunteer you will be making a real contribution to the community. You will be providing information and help to museum visitors, helping in the cafe and shop and supporting the overall operation of the museum.
How to apply
Visit the website of your preferred community museum (they’re listed opposite). If there are volunteering opportunities there, you can read more information and apply.
No current vacancies to work with collections
We already have a large team of volunteers who provide valuable assistance with managing our extensive collections. At the moment we are not recruiting further volunteers to work with our collections as our main focus is on developing the ‘Welcome Museum volunteer’ role. However, if you wish to register your interest for future opportunities, you are welcome to do so by sending your name and indicating your area of collection interest to firstname.lastname@example.org . Your interest will be acknowledged
