Art Workshops. (KS1 and KS2)

Our resident artist is here to help your class push their artistic abilities to the full.
Using natural and social history artefacts as a starting point, you will be led through your chosen art media with expert skill to produce either 3D or 2D masterpieces. See our website for the full art workshop menu.

Local Studies Detectives

A 2 hour session, run by education staff, looking at the change over time of Andover High Street. Using maps, photographs, census returns, trade directories and artefacts, pupils will investigate the development of town centre from the Victorian era to the present day.

Also available is an all day session, that comprises of  a ‘Local Studies Detectives’ session in the morning, then eat your packed lunch at the museum followed by a self led museum town trail in the afternoon

Victorians Session

Workhouse displayThe chance to explore the town's busy Victorian past, covering all aspects of the national curriculum. Situated in the former Victorian grammar school, exhibits cover the development of the railways, the infamous workhouse scandal, local entrepreneur and town mayor Thomas Heath and much more.

Britain since the 1930s

The museum's exhibition shows how the Andover area soon became busy with army and air force during WWII. It wasn't just the armed forces who were effected. The exhibition and our large handling collection show how everyday life was impacted by the war. From gas masks to washing dollies, this session brings fun as well as practical learning to this period of history.

Exploring history through art

Practical and fun artist led sessions exploring Celts/invaders. These sessions are especially popular with years 1/2/3/4

Natural history session

Session based on QCA Science Units ranging from years 4 to 6 on the themes of habitat, adaptation and the food chain. An opportunity for children to handle examples from the food chain, from insects to preserved mammals.

A self led visit with combined handling session with our small selection of replica Iron Age objects.

Museum Interpreter Demonstrator led session at £26 per hour.

Arrivals/departures
Church Close, Andover has adequate space for a full length bus to turn around, making it possible to drop classes near the front door. It is not always possible to park in the Close.

Packed lunches can be eaten in our meetings room with adjacent toilet. However this must be pre booked.

Andover Museum has toilets for visitors.

A room for eating lunch can be made available, but must be booked prior to your visit.

Our small Gift Shop has a range of items available at pocket money prices.
