Volunteering and work experience
Volunteering
We are extremely grateful for the help provided by our team of volunteers who undertake a huge range of tasks. Some are acknowledged experts in their own field while others are trained by us to support the work of the professional staff.
Our volunteers are engaged in a variety of projects at our museums and sites from vehicle restoration to reorganising insect collections; even tending gardens at the Red House Museum. Helping us to catalogue our collections is one area were volunteers make a particularly significant contribution. This has helped us to develop a series of searchable special collections databases.
Unfortunately, we do have to limit the number of volunteers we can accommodate at any one time due mainly to space and equipment availability. However, if you feel that you have something to offer us by way of relevant expertise or time, please contact us.
Work Experience
For students aged under 18 work experience placements are organised through the Trident Scheme and are not available on an individual contact basis. University and other further education students need to contact us at least 2 months in advance with a written request detailing dates and specific subject or project details. We can offer only a very limited number of work experience placements each year and these will only be offered following a successful interview.
