Educational Visits

We welcome visits from all ages. There are a number of options available, please ring the museum to discuss your needs.

  1. A self led visit.
  2. A self led visit with combined handling session with our small selection of replica Iron Age objects.
  3. Museum Interpreter Demonstrator led session at £20 per hour.

These session are aimed at primary school groups at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and have an “art” theme. However sessions can be adapted for older groups if required.

The sessions currently available are:

Belts and brooches
Celtic jewellery – based on our Iron Age Warrior and his world to produce your own replica jewellery. KS1

Pottery artefacts
Exploring archaeological remains then using collage and texture to make pictures of the collection. KS1&2

Clever clay characters
Looking at the Iron Age and arrival of the Romans, your class will be taken step by step through making their own clay heads in either Roman or Celtic Warrior style. KS1&2

Historic still life
With such a huge range of historic artefacts to choose from, this session uses the rich resource of the museum to develop drawing skills as well as learn about the past. KS1&2&3

Weaving and textiles
Follow Iron Age textile production from sheep to shawl in the museum then produce your own weavings in a variety of unusual ways! KS1&2

Roundhouse building
Enter our life size Iron Age round house and get a feel for life in a one room home. Your class will then be given the opportunity to construct their own model roundhouses with our artist there to guide you. KS1&2

 
Iron Age woman weaving
