SEARCH for History
SEARCH for History has been designed to give children access to artefacts and a unique encounter with the past. Learning areas have been developed which link with specific topics from the history curriculum. Sessions are led by specially trained facilitators and provide children and teachers with opportunities to observe, record and problem solve using genuine artefacts.
Whether in Archaeology in Action, where children sort and study excavated finds to begin the process of constructing historical hypotheses, or in our Victorian town house interactive room settings, history is constantly brought alive at SEARCH.
The recent past also has its place and children thinking about history within living memory can "run the corner shop", rummage through "Granny's Wardrobe", even become a curator for the day and put together their own display for life in the 1930s. New ideas for linking use of artefacts with the History National Curriculum are constantly being developed. Session themes actively support the National Curriculum.
A booking includes a free after school pre-visit to help you to plan pre and post visit activities as well as providing practical help and guidance for the visit itself. At SEARCH we aim to make your museum visits time and cost effective, but above all, stimulating. Our service has been developed with teachers in mind and all our sessions have been piloted by local schools so that we can offer more of what you want.
