Rockbourne Roman Villa-Activities for schools
Rockbourne Roman Villa welcomes young visitors to study the Romans. The villa is the largest known Roman villa in the area. Its history spans the period from the Iron Age to the 5th century AD.
We welcome preliminary visits at a time to suit you, and are very happy to discuss your requirements. To arrange a preliminary visit, please telephone the Museum.
Led sessions for schools
Led sessions are for one class. Dedicated museum education facilitators will lead the sessions.
- Mosaics KS2
Be inspired by the mosaics at the site and create your mosaic for your pupils to take back to school - Romans at Rockbourne Roman Villa KS2
Find out how archaeologists use artefacts to help us find about the Romans. Pupils will be able to handle real Roman artefacts and learn about Roman life at the Villa. - Ancient Technology– KS2
A led session exploring the technology that the Romans brought to Britain. Pupils will have the opportunity to have a go at using wattle making models.
School self led sessions
We welcome groups who want to visit on a self led basis. We have resource for you to borrow which will help you interpret the Roman remains and the artefacts in the Museum.
Facilities
We have toilets which your pupils can use. If you would like to have your lunch at the site, please do let us know. Our small Gift Shop has a range of products available at pocket money prices.
Big Roman Day Out
Rockbourne Roman Villa with Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum
We have put together a fantastic hands on day out for your school. Your day begins when you will visit Salisbury Museum in the morning and study Romans in the region, including handling real Roman artefacts and learning about objects that Romans left behind. Your big Roman day out then continues with a visit to Rockbourne Roman Villa where you will learn about the site with our hands on led session.
Cost
Salisbury Museum £2.50 per head, Rockbourne Roman Villa £40.
Cost
Sessions cost £19 per hour, and will last up to 2 hours.
Self led sessions are still available and site entry is free for Hampshire Schools. For non-Hampshire schools, children 60p and adults £1.25.
