School visits to the Willis Museum

The Willis Museum will be closed during the Autumn Term 2008 for the refurbishment of the ground floor, the creation of the Sainsbury Gallery and roof repairs. The Sainsbury Gallery will be designed to the highest security standards to display material from the most important galleries, museums and private collections in the country.

However during this time, we shall be offering a special Outreach Service to schools in Basingstoke which will consist of two sessions:

Art at the Willis Museum - Victorian Printing Passion (KS2)

This hands on session will enable pupils to gain an understanding of Victorian design in the context of design found within the Willis Museum. They will be creating a book of printing design based on Victorian patterns found within the Willis Museum. All materials will be supplied by the Museum.

Local Area Studies – assistance with Top of Town tour (KS2)

This session examines primary sources looking at changes which have taken place in Basingstoke (photographs and maps). The session will be able assist you with your visit to Basingstoke’s “Top of Town”.

We welcome visits from pupils of all ages. The Willis Museum tells the history of Basingstoke and visiting the Museum will enable your pupils to learn about Basingstoke's past in relation to the National Curriculum.
