Music Technology
In the summer of 2008, The National Association of Music Educators (NAME) will launch a microsite dedicated specifically to ICT and music: www.music-ict.org.uk
The content and initial funding of this site comes from a series of initiatives funded by Becta. This has enabled NAME to contract David Ashworth as their Lead Consultant in Music and ICT to investigate and support the embedding of ICT in curriculum music delivery.
The website will contain the following.
- A blog which will keep readers up to date with many of the recent developments in ICT and music technology.
- Examples of best practice of the use of ICT in music. This section explores in more detail some of the work outlined in Electrifying Music – a Guide to Using ICT in Music Education. Click here for a free download.
- Viewlets which demonstrate how to operate software to carry out specific tasks. The programs covered here are recognised as having potential for music education but they are not the only ones that are useful; they are a sample of some of the more popular and free or low cost music applications that are currently available.
- Articles on a range of music ICT related issues.
- Links to other relevant sites with resources that teachers and learners may find useful, for example, The Practical Support Pack (www.teachernet.gov.uk/supportpack) which is an online collection of high quality lesson content, lesson plans, multimedia resources and ICT support materials designed to help teachers develop their teaching practice using ICT.
