Evaluation and next steps

From your study in this unit, you should now have a better understanding of:

• the generic principles of challenge in the classroom and how these can be applied to music;
• improving the challenge for quality, breadth and depth of musical understanding;
• the link between vocabulary, reviewing and evaluating skills and higher-order thinking;
• how to accommodate experienced instrumentalists and vocalists within a KS3 music classroom.

To develop your practice further, you may wish to:

• use Activity Resource 5 to listen to examples of pupils’ work which demonstrate a range of different musical thinking and consider the implications for your own KS3 music curriculum;
• explore further the supporting resources for this unit, including relevant effective practice materials and the archived version of Unit 5  375kb from the 2006 DVD;
