Role of Community Transport
The Community Transport Team is responsible for:
- Procuring and developing dial-a-ride services
- Providing advice and support to organisations operating their own transport services
- Working with local organisations, for example parish councils, to help them identify local transport needs and the best way to respond to these
- Informing voluntary and statutory organisations on current community transport issues
- Developing and arranging training courses to help those organisations which are involved in planning or providing community transport services
- Developing and organising MiDAS, the County Council’s minibus driver assessment and training scheme
- Working with other organisations to encourage partnership working and the most effective use of existing and future transport resources ( through strategic, policy and practical initiatives) operated by other County Council departments, health agencies, district councils and other organisations
- Developing the County Council’s Community Transport policies and strategy
- Providing a fleet insurance and recovery scheme for local authority schools
- Issuing Section 19 permits for those organisations operating minibuses which are available for community use
- Providing financial assistance to those organisations operating voluntary car schemes
