The Role of Strategy
Strategy is a small team with a big remit that covers both ‘day to day’ and long-term strategic responsibilities and projects.
Much of our current activity is focused on the Local Transport Plan (LTP), where we work closely with colleagues throughout the Environment Department to deliver this. With an increasing emphasis on public transport within the LTP, we providing advice, assist with scheme implementation or adopt the project manager mantle.
We have taken a leading role in developing Quality Partnerships with bus operators which provide for ‘total journey’ improvements on key bus routes in Hampshire. This aspect of our work demonstrates our ability to foster joint working with operators, which also extends to local ferry operators and the rail industry with whom we have regular contact and act as the conduit between them and the County Council. We develop and implement partnership works to improve passenger facilities at rail stations and ferry terminals whilst behind the scenes we seek to sustain and enhance services.
We manage the County Council’s public transport information output, which includes producing 550,000 Travel Guides for eleven areas, two network maps and a Hampshire Public Transport Map.
The management of an electronic database of bus routes, stops and timetables in Hampshire, known as Traveline, continues to be maintained and developed by the team.
We are also responsible for maintaining Hampshire’s 8,000-plus bus stops!
