Shopmobility schemes are designed to motorise or ease the walk journey of shoppers and those people who wish to undertake other activities in the vicinity of a scheme.

The system involves low cost or free spot hire of manual or electric wheelchairs and pavement vehicles. Most shopmobility schemes are run by voluntary organisations, but in many cases with one or more paid staff.

They generally operate from premises which are close to or within popular shopping areas which may either be in town centres or specific shopping developments.

In addition to hiring out wheelchairs and pavement vehicles, shopmobility schemes may also offer other services such as escorts who will accompany users to help with shopping, or arrange longer term hire for some equipment.

In Hampshire, Shopmobility schemes operate in the following areas:

  • Andover
  • Basingstoke
