"Passion for Pattern" explores the textiles used to make dress and accessories over the last 250 years. It focuses on the patterns and colours used in their creation and highlights some of the extraordinary, fine and commonly-used patterns that have shaped textile design and fashions over that time.

Patterns have been important in textile decoration, from early cultures to the fashion-conscious world of today. Pattern motifs can have a symbolic meaning or catch the prevailing mood of a particular period in time.

They can be used to create an impression or reflect the tastes of the wearer. They can enhance body shape or be used to create a sense of identity and belonging.The power of pattern and the passion for pattern is huge!
