Opting out form and guidance

Opting out

If your circumstances change and you wish to opt out of the scheme, whether permanently or for a period of time, you should complete an Opt out form and send this to your normal payroll provider. (For HCC employees - please return to Pension Services)

You can find out more information on opting out on our dedicated 'Opting Out' page.

Changing your nomination

  • If you wish to change your nomination for your death grant, you should complete a revised Death grant 'expression of wish' form. This will replace any existing nomination that you have.
  • If you wish to change your nomination for a cohabiting partners pension, you should complete a revised Nominated co-habiting partner. This will replace any existing nomination that you have.

Please note that you are unable to nominate someone for your ‘survivors pension’, other than a cohabiting partner.  In the event of death, this is automatically paid to any legal spouse

Divorce and Civil Partner Dissolution

If you get divorced or have a civil partnership dissolved:

  • Your ex-spouse or ex-civil partner will not be entitled to a widower's pension if you die before them.
  • Children’s pensions are not affected by divorce.
  • Death grant nominations remain in force until you change them.
However, following

court proceedings, they may order your ex-spouse or ex-civil partner to receive one, or a combination of the following:

  • All or part of your pension
  • All or part of your retirement lump sum
  • All or part of your lump sum when you die (overriding any nomination you have made)

Cash equivalent transfer value (CETV)

You will need to request a ‘cash equivalent transfer value form’ if you are involved in proceedings for divorce or dissolution of a civil partnership, judicial separation or nullity.

  • If you are currently contributing to the Hampshire Pension Fund, please complete cash equivalent transfer value form
  • If you have a deferred (frozen) pension please send your request in writing stating the reason that you need this so we are able to provide you with the correct quote.

We will recover costs according to our published schedule of charges.
