Nominating a cohabiting partner
If you have paid into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) on or after 1 April 2008 you can nominate a cohabiting partner to receive a surviving partners pension in the event of your death.
Please check the conditions carefully under 'Who qualifies as a nominated cohabiting partner'. You will also be asked for documents to confirm this.
What if I do not have the relevant supporting evidence?
As long as you meet all the conditions required, you can complete the Cohabiting Partner Declaration, which must be signed in front of a witness - who must be a commissioner for oaths, or a notary Public / Justice of the peace / Solicitors having the powers conferred on a commissioner for oaths
*Please note that this nomination is only for the surviving partners pension. If you wish to nominate individual(s) or organisation(s) for receipt of any death grant that may be payable, you should complete a Death grant 'expression of wish' form and send this to us at Pension Services. This grant will be paid to your estate if you do not make a nomination.
