The Independent Public Service Pensions Commission issued its interim report on 7 October 2010.
The report acknowledges the importance of pensions as part of the remuneration of public sector workers, but states that the current provision is not sustainable. It does not however provide any specific proposals regarding changes to the scheme.
Protection will be given to pensions already accrued, as pension awards already made would not be changed and neither would the years pensionable service built up so far.
