Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) accredited graduate training scheme
Hampshire County Council maintains and improves a busy highway network. Our engineers use their technical expertise across a wide variety of projects, making Hampshire an excellent place to develop your professional knowledge and skills.
Our ICE accredited Civil Engineering graduate training scheme has an excellent track record in developing graduates for Chartered or Incorporated status with the ICE.
We offer graduates a rounded experience through placements across a range of engineering disciplines, including:
- Highway design
- Structural design
- Contract management (site)
- Client management
- Asset management
- Planned maintenance
- Highway laboratory
- Quantity surveying
These placements can vary in duration from three to 12 months, with the majority of graduates obtaining their desired qualification level within four years.
We provide graduates with mentoring from a network of vastly experienced Supervising Civil Engineers and Delegated Engineers.

What we require
We are looking for enthusiastic, practical and adaptable graduates with these qualifications and skills:
Bachelor or Masters degree (minimum 2:2) in Civil Engineering or a related subject that meets the entry requirements of the ICE
Excellent written skills (reports, scheme information, emails and letters)
Confidence when communicating with a wide range of people
Strong IT skills
Ability to use Computer-Aided Design software (AutoCAD)
Enthusiasm and drive to undertake and contribute to the training scheme
