Economy, Transport and Environment

The Environment Department looks after many aspects of life in Hampshire, including roads, pavements, street lighting and school transport to name just a few.

Waste disposal is an increasingly important area for us and we’ve been successful in diverting 80% of household waste away from landfill – quite some achievement when Hampshire has more than one million residents and each household throws away more than a tonne of waste every year.

Our priorities are continuing to improve the physical environment, helping residents move around the county more easily to access the services they need, and anticipating and responding to the impacts of climate change.
