Park and Ride

We strongly recommend using the Winchester Park and Ride service as car parks in the City centre can become full very quickly.

There are three Park and Ride sites in Winchester:

  • South Winchester - located off Junction 11 of the M3. For Sat Nav users enter SO21 2FG
  • Barfield - located off Junction 10 of the M3. For Sat Nav users enter SO23 9SQ
  • St Catherine's - located off Junction 10 of the M3. For Sat Nav users enter SO23 9NP

Charges:

All day - £3.00

Arrival after 10.30 am Monday to Friday - £2.50

For Barfield and St Catherine's only:

Arrive after 4.00pm - Free (obtain tickets from machine)

Bus stop

All park and ride buses stop at The Broadway which is next to the Winchester Guildhall.

Car

From the South (Portsmouth, Southampton)

  • Exit M3, Junction 10, go straight over roundabout and keep in right hand lane as you come to a set of traffic lights - turn right.
  • After the Murco petrol station (on your left) turn left into Barfield Close for access to Barfield Park & Ride or Chesil long stay multi-storey car park.
  • From Chesil car park, Winchester Guildhall is within short walking distance.
    We fully expect this car park to be full so please refer to the attached map for additional parking.
    • As you walk out of the car park, cross Chesil Street at the pedestrian crossing and head right, turn left at the mini roundabout and over the bridge. Keep walking straight along this road, passing King Alfred Statue on your right.  The Winchester Guildhall is on your left-hand side (opposite the Bus Station)

From the North (London, Basingstoke)

  • Exit M3, Junction 9, at Winnall - go straight across roundabout towards Tesco’s.
  • At next roundabout (with Tesco’s on your left) go straight over roundabout and follow road all the way to the end.
  • At end of road you will have to turn left (stay in left hand lane)
  • Keep going until you see a roundabout·At the roundabout by King Alfred’s Statue, turn left over the bridge.
  • Turn right at the mini roundabout into Chesil Street. The Multi-storey car park is the 1st turning on the left.
    We fully expect this car park to be full so please refer to the attached map for additional parking.
  • From Chesil car park, Winchester Guildhall is within short walking distance.
    • As you walk out of the car park, cross Chesil Street at the pedestrian crossing and head right, turn left at the mini roundabout and over the bridge. Keep walking straight along this road, passing King Alfred Statue on your right. The Winchester Guildhall is on your left-hand side (opposite the Bus Station)

Chesil car park is the closest car park to the Winchester Guildhall but it can become full quickly. The Winchester City Centre Parking Map provides details of other car parks in the surrounding area. We recommend using the Park and Ride Service to avoid delays to your journey on the day

 

Train

The closest train station to the Guildhall is Winchester, Station Hill, SO23 8TJ, which is an approximate 15 minute walk.

  • Exit the station on platform 2
  • Head south on Station Rd toward B3420
  • Continue onto Newburgh St/​B3420
  • Continue to follow B3420
  • At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto High St/​B3040
  • Continue to follow B3040
  • Slight right at Jewry St
  • Continue onto The Broadway
  • Destination will be on the right

Alternatively there is a taxi rank outside the station and will take approximately 5 minutes to travel to the Guildhall.

 

Bus

Winchester Bus Station is directly opposite the Winchester Guildhall

Coach

The Winchester stop for National Express coaches is The Broadway - King Alfred statue coach shop, which is next to the Guildhall.

 

Ferry

Passenger ferry

  • Take the Red Jet Hi-Speed Ferry from West Cowes to Town Quay, Southampton
  • Alight the Citylink Shuttle Bus to Southampton Central train station (this service is free for Red Funnel customers or £1 per journey), or it is an approximate 20 minute walk.
  • Board the train to Winchester (see 'Train' tab)

Car Ferry

  • Take the Red Funnel Ferry from East Cowes to Town Quay, Southampton
  • Drive to the Winchester Guildhall (see 'Car' tab)
