Hampshire Facts and Figures

Long Term Projections

New Updated Figures now available

Summary:

  • Hampshire County Council produces The Long Term Projections.

  • They provide estimates of the population of individual districts within Hampshire (as well as the Unitary Authorities of Portsmouth and Southampton).

  • They also provide estimates of the population of the sub-regions as defined by the South East Plan.

  • The population figures are broken down into age groups.

  • Estimates on the number of households by type are given.

  • All figures are projected until 2026.

  • The main assumption underlying these projections is that the number of dwellings built between 2006 and 2026 will be consistent with the numbers in the South East Plan. The period from 2001 to 2008 is based on actual dwellings completions.

  • There is a technical note that briefly explains the methodology for the projections.

  • A short summary report to accompany the data will be available soon.

The Data:

The methodology of the Long Term Population Projections is different to that used for the Small Area Population Forecasts (SAPF); as such, the two sets of figures are not directly comparable.
