The Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton Minerals and Waste Local Plan

The Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton Minerals and Waste Local Plan was adopted in December 1998. This replaced the Hampshire Minerals Local Plan (adopted in 1987). It contains detailed policies for the control of minerals and waste development and identifies preferred sites to provide for the minerals and waste development requirements in Hampshire Portsmouth and Southampton to the year 2001. There is also Supplementary Planning Guidance in the form of two Development Briefs for Bramshill Plateau (1998) and Ringwood Forest (2000).

Hampshire County Council's Local Transport Plan

The Local Transport Plan (LTP) covers the period from 2006 to 2011, setting out the County Council’s transport strategy for the next five years. The strategy is rooted in a thorough examination of current and future problems and opportunities. It is also firmly set within the context of emerging regional and national policies.

The Hampshire County Structure Plan

A structure plan sets out policies and major proposals to guide new development, improve the transport system and conserve the natural and built environment. It must implement national and regional policies, in particular the Government's Planning Policy Guidance (PPG) notes and Regional Planning Guidance (RPG). In turn, the Hampshire Structure Plan provides the framework for local plans prepared by district, borough and city councils, and for the Minerals and Waste Local Plan.

Structure plans are due to disappear as a result of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. Under the Act, the responsibility for strategic planning will pass from County and Unitary Councils to Regional Assemblies. For further information on strategic planning, see The South East Plan below.

The South East Plan

The South East Plan is the name given to the Regional Spatial Strategy for the South East of England. This is a document that will set out changes needed to improve the quality of life in the South East England region over the next 20+ years. This strategic planning document will replace the Hampshire Structure Plan.
