Proposed Areas - first draft of the Hampshire Minerals Plan (October 2007)

The public consultation on the draft Hampshire Minerals Plan has now been completed. This consultation was designed to provide an opportunity for comment and response to the most recent version of the Mineral Plan which aims to ensure an adequate supply of aggregates in the future.

This was the first formal public consultation on the site allocation process to meet the requirements laid out in the Core Strategy and a chance for everyone to comment upon those sites put forward for a particular mineral activity. It was advertised in the local press and subject to neighbour notification with the documentation available in council offices, information centres, libraries and housing offices. The Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) Regulations 2004 detailed the requirements of Regulation 26.

We have received responses from over 4,700 individuals or organisations, who have made almost 14,000 comments. These have now being collated and recorded and a summary of each response is available for public viewing on the Consultation website. Please see the Data Protection Statement.

All responses will be taken into account when preparing the revised version of the Hampshire Mineral Plan, which will be provided to the County Council members in July for approval to submit to government. There will be another opportunity to comment upon the Hampshire Minerals Plan following approval - currently scheduled for September 2008. The plan will also be subject to a Public Examination by a Planning Inspector; this is likely to occur in Summer 2009.

Hampshire Minerals Plan - Regulation 26 consultation document

The draft Hampshire Minerals Plan highlighted mineral (and landfill) proposals and contained details of the areas and sites that the four Hampshire minerals and waste planning authorities believe are most suitable for future use. This six week consultation took place between 31 October and 12 December 2007.

During the consultation period five workshops were held across Hampshire to explain:

  • where we are in the plan preparation process & what happens next
  • why new mineral and landfill sites are needed
  • emerging proposals for sand and gravel and landfill provision

The notes, final report and the powerpoint presentation slides from these workshops are available below:
