South East Plan

North Hampshire

The South East Plan proposes the building of 1,300 new homes per year in North Hampshire. This would mean 26,000 new properties being built in North Hampshire over the next 20 years.

In North Hampshire, whilst development will be concentrated on previously used land within urban areas, some greenfield development will be necessary. This will be focused on the town of Basingstoke.

Development around the towns of Aldershot, Farnborough and Fleet is constrained by the internationally important Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (SPA). It covers large tracts of land and housing development must not have an impact on the SPA.

A substantial amount of land in North Hampshire is already earmarked for house building and other suitable sites will become available within urban areas over the next 20 years. Together, these could provide around 22,000 of the 26,000 new homes required.
