South East Plan

Your hopes for Hampshire

As a resident of Hampshire, we believe that you should have the chance to shape the future of your county. We launched the Holding out for Hampshire campaign to ensure that you understood what the plan meant for your county and to give you the opportunity to make your views known. We had an overwhelming response to our Hampshire Now Special questionnaire (a record 15,000 replies), which highlighted the importance you place on the quality of life we enjoy in Hampshire.

In the summer 2005 issue of Hampshire Now we shared your hopes for Hampshire as expressed through the replies to the questionnaire. Residents accept that there needs to be growth and development and this should be managed in a controlled and sustainable way. One key theme that emerged was that new housing must meet the needs of local people but there must be clear guarantees of investment – by the public and private sector together – in physical and community infrastructure to support growth. This means investment to improve such things as roads and other transport facilities, water and sewerage systems, schools and health facilities.
