River Hamble Notice to River Users No 23 of 2014
Hamble Harbour Authority - notice to river users from Hampshire County Council in Basingstoke and Deane, East Hampshire, Eastleigh, Fareham, Gosport, Hart, Havant, Isle of Wight, New Forest, Outside of Hampshire, Portsmouth, Rushmoor, Southampton, Test Valley, Winchester areas.
Notice is hereby given that the annual Bursledon Regatta will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 30 & 31 August 2014, on the River Hamble.
Mariners are advised of the following activities which may have an impact on safety on the River:
30 Aug: 1015 – 1230: Dinghy Racing. First start will be at 1030, then at 5 minute intervals until 1100, in the vicinity of Swanwick Bend. It is anticipated that a significant number of dinghies will be racing throughout the River below the A27 bridge, finishing in Bursledon Pool. Masters of larger vessels are particularly requested to keep clear of the starting area at Swanwick Bend from 1015 until after 1100, if at all possible.
30 Aug: 1430 - 1600: Aquatic events and Water Carnival in Bursledon Pool. Some of these events will take place within the main channel. Non-participating vessels are requested to keep clear if possible.
30 Aug: 2045: Evening events, including a torchlight parade and fireworks display. Mariners are advised that parts of Bursledon Pool will be closed to all vessels during the fireworks.
31 Aug: Gig Racing. Starting at 1530, this will take place mainly outside the main channel, but mariners are advised that rowing gigs may be encountered crossing the channel below Swanwick Bend.
