Independent committee vacancies from Hampshire County Council in Basingstoke and Deane, East Hampshire, Eastleigh, Fareham, Gosport, Hart, Havant, New Forest, Rushmoor, Test Valley, Winchester areas.

Hampshire County Council is required in consequence of the Local Government Act 2000 to set up an Independent Remuneration Panel (IRP) to advise on allowances paid to the elected Members of the authority.

As one of four volunteers on the Panel, you will provide an independent perspective. Recommendations of the Panel are considered by the County Council when making decisions on members' allowances.

Applications are invited from members of the public interested in serving on the Panel. Experience of business, community or voluntary work is essential, as is an interest and understanding of the nature of a member led public authority, and the ability to assess objectively the financial rewards members should receive.

To be eligible you must not be an elected Member of Hampshire County Council; or of any other local authority such as a district or parish council; and you should not be related to or have close personal relationships with any Member or employee of the County Council. You should also live and/or work within the area of Hampshire County Council.

Whilst this is a voluntary position, an allowance of £675 per annum is payable in respect of any financial loss experienced through time spent on the Panel together with travel and subsistence expenses.
