Mobile project – rural access

Mobile Unit

The Test Valley Strategic Partnership suggested a ‘mobile’ method of delivering services to provide services to the more rural areas of the Test Valley and purchased a van which was converted into a mobile unit.

Locality Team Initiative

Out of discussion with the Locality Team Family Worker about targeted families, it emerged that no funding was available to work with the client families. A budget was agreed from the Extended Service grants scheme which would allow the family worker to better serve the needs of the target families.

Perseverance (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

Government guidance stresses that ‘learning and speaking English is the key to people finding employment, progressing in their jobs, helping their children and participating in their wider community.’ £300m was invested by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) in 2007/08 for priority learner focus, but many still lack good enough English language – ESOL is important for smooth transition from new arrival to eventual citizenship; even more important for those already settled here

Valuing People - Day Opportunity Brokers

Help at home

‘Day Opportunity Brokers’ were introduced in Hampshire to work with service users who were assessed as needing occupation during the day. Rather than simply referring such service users to an in-house day service, the brokers work with the individuals to identify their needs and wishes.

The Trading Standards Service (TS) is often contacted about consumers whose buying decisions have got them into difficulties. What make these cases stand out from the norm is that these consumers fall into the category of extremely vulnerable individuals (whether due to mental, physical or other disability). In this case, the plight of the consumer (Mr H) was reported.
