Project Integra is a partnership working to provide an integrated approach to the collection, treatment and disposal of municipal waste in Hampshire. This covers around 740,000 households and over 800,000 tonnes of waste a year.
Our origins go back to the early 1990s when the need to move away from the landfilling of most waste was recognised. The approach developed in Hampshire was one of partnership between the 14 local authorities in the area and plans for change were developed together. This way of working continues to this day and the partnership is now joined by the private company that secured the integrated waste management contract.
Our approach blazed a trail in the UK both for the planning and development of infrastructure and for partnership working in waste. We now benefit from some of the best waste infrastructure in the UK which, combined with services on the ground and the enthusiastic participation of residents, has transformed the way waste is managed in Hampshire.
