We deliver successful public schemes through strong project management.

Our experienced design and project management teams work in close collaboration with our clients to deliver successful infrastructure improvements and maintenance works that sensitively complement the needs of the communities that they serve. Our broad range of in-house expertise can support all aspects of civil engineering design and project management, particularly in the highways, waste and development sectors. They can see projects through feasibility, design, contract preparation, cost management and site supervision, offering a true end-to-end service.

Experienced project management

Civil engineering covers a broad range of disciplines, from highways and related structures to waste facilities and housing developments. We are able to offer a comprehensive range of services to support any requirements, with a particular emphasis on successful project management. Our engineers have many years of local authority and private sector experience between them, with many holding professional qualifications in their particular disciplines. In-house specialist resources enable us to offer a multidisciplinary product, including site surveys/investigations, support for planning applications and excellent cost management.

Highway design

Our team of highway design engineers and technicians have a wealth of practical experience in delivery of infrastructure, environmental improvements and maintenance. In addition to general project management, we are able to offer:

  • feasibility design/studies
  • topographical surveys in AutoCad or MX formats
  • preliminary/detailed design in 2 or 3D, based on GIS or full survey data
  • pavement design
  • drainage design using MicroDrainage, including flood risk assessments and modelling
  • contract document and drawing preparation
  • estimating, bill of quantity production
  • CDM coordination

Structures design

Our team of structural design engineers and technicians offer structural design and maintenance experience, as well as extensive asset management and technical approval knowledge. We are able to offer:

  • maintenance ordering and management
  • abnormal load routeing
  • assessments
  • inspections (including confined spaces)
  • asset management advice and planning
  • Approval in Principle (AIP) advice and support
  • feasibility/preliminary/detailed design and analysis, including finite element
  • foundation investigation and design
  • contract document and drawing preparation
  • estimating, bill of quantity production
  • CDM coordination
  • application of Eurocodes

Cost and contract management

Our team of highly experienced quantity surveyors and site supervisory engineers have delivered a wide range of infrastructure and maintenance projects over many years. They have a proven track record in delivering schemes on time and to budget, often under significant political and public scrutiny. They are able to offer:

  • strategic contracts/procurement
  • cost management of construction works
  • claims advice and support (if needed)
  • site supervision
  • contract management
  • CDM Coordination

Waste and other facilities

As well as the core activities highlighted above, we are also able to offer support and design for other infrastructure projects, and have successfully delivered a number of household waste recycling centres in recent years, assisting the Council in achieving its ambitious recycling targets.

We have also successfully delivered large and complex multi-disciplinary projects, including a large park and ride and several bus priority schemes involving traffic signal operations, CCTV and real time passenger information.

Specialist services

As well as the core services offered in respect of highway and structural design, we are also able to offer a range of specialisms that are not often found outside of the private sector. These include:

  • topographical surveys – we have two OS trained survey teams able to survey a wide range of terrain and buildings with various output options
  • geotechnics – our team is able to offer services including slope stability assessment, contamination advice, foundation design and soakaway design, as well as a range of testing and technical advice
  • development support – our development team provide advice and design services for proposals seeking planning approval, or just schemes off highway requiring civil engineering input
  • flood risk assessment – we are also able to offer a Zone 1 flood risk assessment service, including analysis using MicroDrainage
