Home composting
All your fruit and vegetable scraps along with any cuttings from your garden can be added to your own compost bin or heap. You can also add cardboard or shredded paper to help keep a good balance of ‘greens’ and ‘browns’. The perfect recipe for good compost requires approximately a 50:50 split.
Greens |
Browns |
|---|---|
| Fruit cores and peelings | Scrunched up thin cardboard |
| Tea bags | Shredded paper |
| Grass cuttings | Cereal and tea packets |
| Annual plants and flowers | Egg boxes |
After nine to twelve months, you’ll have your very own compost, ready to put back on your garden and help nurture the same plants that helped to make it!
