Marriage
Marriage according to the law of this country is ‘the union of one man with one woman, voluntarily entered into for life to the exclusion of all others," and may be civil or religious.
A civil ceremony may be held at a Register Office or at an approved venue of your choice and is entirely non-religious. The ceremony may include readings, poems, or music, but these must not have any religious content.
Hampshire Registration Service will book a provisional date for your civil wedding within Hampshire, take you through the legal preliminaries necessary in order for you to get married and provide staff to perform you ceremony, whether that is in one of our friendly and accessible Register Offices or one of the 140 beautiful approved venues throughout the county.
We also guide you through the legal requirements for marriage and civil partnership elsewhere in England and Wales and in some cases for marriages abroad.
