We visited the haven from 3 o'clock this afternoon. It was a memorable visit.First we discovered that Blacked gull chicks look nothing like Blacked Gulls, second , Avocet chicks look just like their parents(a bit fluffier).

Third, There was a Heron lurking in a corner of the se. Gulls were making regular sorties of attacking the Heron which it ignored. We have seen this before but, Suddenly the Heron flew low over the sea and took a Gadwall chick. Every gull flew into the air and made a terrible noise. We saw this repeated 4 times. We have never seen this before.

Just a garden birdwatcher/nature lover who now appreciates what`s on her doorstep!

Thankyou! I`ve been on the beach side of your front wall many times......today i went past that wall and had the best Sunday morning with the help of Ed who must of been born a bird! It came natural to him and it was a pleasure sharing his knowledge. A magical place that should never change - I will be back! - thankyou again

On the last day of Jan we visited the Haven. For once, we had the se, at the first hide, to ourselves. Not surprising as the temp. was about zero. 30 oyster catchers-so still I thought they were plants, 20 gulls popped in for a while as did a heron. we also saw a redshank. There were a lot more birds on the beach, e. g. plovers and Turnstones.
