Network Rail roadworks affecting roads in Romsey, Andover and Whitchurch
To contact Network Rail about the scheme please call: 0845 7114141
Between September 2011 and June 2012, Network Rail will be working on a number of bridges in Hampshire as part of their work to upgrade a second route out of Southampton docks to take larger freight containers.
This route runs from Southampton to Basingstoke via Romsey and Andover. The works require 17 bridges to be knocked down and rebuilt, the track to be altered at 11 locations and station canopies at Andover, Romsey and Whitchurch to be adjusted. Only eight of these 17 bridges carry public highways across the railway. The other bridges are on private roads, or public bridleways and footpaths.

Details of bridge works still under discussion |
Most bridge closures will require additional works prior to and after the bridge closure in order to divert gas, water, electric and telecoms pipes and cables that currently span the bridge.
All bridges will be closed completely during the periods to allow for demolition and reconstruction and road closures. Advance warning signs will be put out on the roads affected and signed diversion routes that are suitable for all vehicles will be in operation. Any changes to dates of bridge closures and other works in the area will be published on this web page.
