Survival Guide to Road-works and Temporary Road Closures
We are well-aware and understand that road-works cause disruption to users of the highway and to those who live and work nearby. Road-works are a consequence of our duty to maintain the highway for all to use and unfortunately cannot be undertaken efficiently without causing some inconvenience. However, we try our best to programme and implement them to cause as little disruption as reasonably possible and to keep those affected informed.
Where we anticipate our work may cause significant disruption, we usually erect signs large enough to be read by passing drivers, displaying the date from which road-works will commence or from which roads will be closed, our estimate of the works duration and our telephone number, for the benefit of road users. In addition, where premises are affected, we usually inform the occupiers by letter.
Road-works are construction sites and present more hazards than would normally be expected. If you are walking nearby, please beware of uneven surfaces, keep to any walkways provided and do not enter areas enclosed with barriers or cones.
Our construction workers are experienced in working around the needs of those affected by road-works. During the works, both they and staff at our offices are pleased to discuss individual access requirements or any other problems, with residents, businesses and road-users and accommodate them accordingly.
