Highway Maintenance

Street Lighting

Hampshire County Council maintains more than 140,000 street lights and illuminated signs throughout Hampshire to ensure that we reduce the risk of night-time accidents, improve public safety and conserve energy on a continuous basis.

These services are achieved by a maintenance and inspection programme which covers the vast majority of street lights within the county.

The County Council has installed a computer system called Deadsure. This system stores data relating to all the County Council's street lights and illuminated signs across the county, with links to local offices in Basingstoke, Farnborough, Andover, Lymington, Eastleigh, Gosport and Havant as well as the four Highways Unit offices at Hook, Petersfield, Fareham and Totton.

The Deadsure software provides local offices with up-to-the-minute information on all street lights but we still rely on light failure and damage reports received from the public, so the County Council ask you to report any faulty or defective street lights using the online form or on the freefone fault line.
