Highway Maintenance Network Hierarchy
A key objective of this maintenance strategy is to develop a Maintenance Network Hierarchy in line with the Local Government Association’s publication ‘Delivering Best Value in Highway Maintenance: A Code of Practice'.
These maintenance designations are not directly matched to the existing network classifications such as A B C class roads and the required designations as stipulated by the New Roads and Street Works Act. It was never intended that these hierarchies be the same because they cover different aspects of network traffic and purpose. A reasonable correlation has been established, however, between these and other designations and shown in the schedule below.
