First Anniversary for the Hampshire Street Lighting PFI team
Hampshire’s Street Lighting Private Finance Initiative has recently celebrated its first anniversary.
Works started in April 2010 in Basingstoke and Gosport and so far 7,700 columns have been replaced and a further 3,600 lanterns changed. Using the latest in energy saving lamps and electronic control this has led to savings in energy of 1.68m kilowatt hours, equating to 909 tonnes of CO2.
At the same time the PFI Contractor, SSE (Scottish and Southern Electric) Lighting Services, still had to maintain the existing lighting stock, handling over 2,300 enquiries and attending some 33,700 defective units – all this while maintaining an average of 99% of the lights on throughout the course of the year.
