Individual driver assessment
Whether you are commuting, taking your children to school, or visiting friends you are participating in one of the most dangerous things you will ever do – you are driving. Most people take no further training once they have passed the Driving Test so, but it would help nearly everyone to refresh and update their skills.
What does the assessment offer?
It is not a test - there is no pass/fail mark. It is an informal, confidential assessment of your driving ability. The aim is to offer help and advice, which enables people to raise their driving to a better, safer standard. General ability is assessed but the assessment can be adapted to investigate a particular concern.
Following the practical drive, each person is given a comprehensive de-brief, when any concerns and remedial actions are discussed. They also receive a detailed report, clearly stating the findings of the assessment and what follow-up action should be taken.
Who should attend?
All drivers, especially those who have received no professional driver training since passing their driving test. People returning to driving after an enforced absence or those who have been involved in an accident . Also, drivers who lack confidence.
How much does it cost?
The assessment costs £60 and lasts one-and-a-half hours.
Where are the assessments held?
You use your own car and the assessment can start from your home. The scheme is managed by road safety officers with assessments delivered by specially selected and trained Driving Standards Agency (DSA) instructors.
The benefits
Most drivers consider themselves to be good drivers, yet freely admit that they would not now pass the driving test – quite a contradiction. By driving to a better standard you will save fuel, brake and tyre wear. You can become a better, safer and more confident driver, which means you will enjoy driving more and feel less stressed.
