Overview and Scrutiny

Lyndhurst Bypass Review

The Hampshire County Council Environment & Transportation Select Committee has initiated a scrutiny review of the case for Hampshire County Council prioritising a bypass for the town of Lyndhurst in the New Forest.

The report and recommendations were circulated to the relevant representatives in March 2008. The Cabinet considered the report and recommendations at its meeting on 31 March 2008. Please see the link below for the decision taken by the Cabinet:

Cabinet Response to Lyndhurst Bypass Review

The Lyndhurst Bypass scrutiny review was launched in September 2007, with a variety of communications to the public.

Requests for written evidence were sent out to a wide range of stakeholders, and the deadline for the receipt of views was early October 2007.

After considering the written submissions, the review group identified aspects of the topic which were explored further through a  'select committee' style session, which took place on the following date (please click on link for agenda papers):

5th November 10am

The review group considered the late evidence identified on the 5 November. That evidence was added to the Key Documents section of the webpage.

The review group finalised its report (downloadable from link below) and this was considered by Cabinet together with a validation report (downloadable see link below) on 31 March 2008. Please find the minutes of this Cabinet meeting here:

Cabinet 31 March 2008

This review is now completed; the outcomes will be monitored by the Environment & Transportation Select Committee Members during 2008/09.
