Concessionary Travel - Bus passes and travel tokens
From 1 April 2008, residents of England who are aged 60 or over or are eligible disabled, are entitled to free off-peak bus travel anywhere in England. 'Off-peak' is any time after 9.30am Monday to Friday and all day at weekends. To take advantage of this concession you need to obtain a travel pass from the local authority in the area where you live.
Individual councils may offer further benefits to their residents. In some areas of Hampshire the free travel concession is extended (for local residents only) to apply outside off-peak times, but only for travel within your local area. These extra concessions are not available when travelling elsewhere in Hampshire or in England.
The national concessionary bus pass is free and is valid for up to five years at the discretion of the issuing council.
For further information and/or an application form, contact your local council:

Companion pass
If your disability prevents you from travelling alone, you may be entitled to a "Companion" pass, which allows someone to travel with you free of charge within your local area. Companions are not named and do not hold their own travel pass, so a different person can travel with you on each journey. Companion passes are available if you live in Basingstoke & Deane, Fareham, Hart, Rushmoor, Test Valley or Winchester, but please note that they are generally not valid when boarding a bus outside the area of issue.
Travel Tokens/Vouchers
Other concessions, such as discounted rail travel, travel tokens or vouchers, may be offered by some councils, as an alternative to the free bus pass, but there may a charge for these alternatives. Tokens are valid on buses and most taxi services, although you should check with the taxi company that they will accept tokens when booking your journey.
