Protecting the public by using United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited facilities to provide scientific advice and consultancy services.
The scope of the service provided includes public and agriculture analyst services, appointed food examiner, product safety, food complaint, microbiology, occupational hygiene and environmental testing.
Food enforcement work, including authenticity, adulteration, microbiological and chemical composition.
Microbiological and chemical analysis of water, including swimming pools, drinking water, hot and cold water systems (Legionella), bathing water and sampling service.
Environmental and occupation hygiene monitoring, including local exhaust ventilation inspection and testing, mobile phone mast monitoring and landfill monitoring.
Product safety testing.
Training in all aspects of food and feed enforcement, and Legionella risk assessment/management.
Expert opinion, including court appearances and witness statements.
Hampshire Scientific Service is an integral part of the County Council.

Customer feedback is used to improve and develop this service, in line with the Quality Assurance Framework for Services for Schools.
Mechanisms for collecting the views of customers include the annual satisfaction survey and complaints, compliments and comments.
