Hampshire School Staff Absence Scheme

Pupils leaving school

A mutual insurance based scheme covering absences related to long-term sickness, maternity, paternity and adoption leave. It can be purchased by maintained schools and academies within Hampshire to cover both teaching and/or non-teaching staff.

  • Service features

    Our service covers:

    • Long-term sickness.

    • Maternity and adoption leave.

    • Paternity and maternity support leave.

    • Public duties and suspension.

    • Professional association facilities service.

    • Participants claim for reimbursement of sickness absences of more than 20 working days continuously, or 30 working days in total within a financial year.

    • Reimbursements are also made for the costs of maternity, paternity and adoption leave, with the reimbursement from the statutory maternity pay scheme being taken into account.

    • Schools and academies participate over the period of the agreement. This provides stability of changes and ensures your premiums will not increase in response to your claim history.

  • Benefits to schools

    • Valuable financial cover, enabling schools to plan cover without facing a double financial burden.

    • Shares the risks between schools and over the period of participation.

    • Simplifies financial planning, as school-level contingency not required for these items, providing reassurance against unforeseen circumstances.

    • Clear and easy process, with support from staff and guidance notes.

    • Claims processed quickly and efficiently.

    • Part of collective bargaining for Hampshire County Council staff policies and procedures.
