Dani's World Cup Success

On Friday 17 February, Hampshire athlete Dani King smashed the world team pursuit record, with her team mates Joanna Rowsell and Laura Trott to beat Canada and secure gold in the UCI Track World Cup at the Olympic Velodrome in London.

The event was the first sporting event ever to be staged in the Velodrome on the Olympic Park and the first opportunity for many top athletes to race on the new track.

Dani's meteoric rise to fame started in March 2011 when she won gold in the team pursuit at the World Track Cycling Championships. As one of Hampshire's most talented athletes, in 2011 she received funding through the Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme. She is now an integral part of the British Cycling team and a full time professional cyclist, looking forward to the World Championships and the London Olympics.
